Queues are open from both ends: one end for inserting data ( enqueue ), and the other end for removing data ( dequeue ). It is because Collection is the super interface of Queue. A Queue is also a linear structure that follows a First In First Out (FIFO) order, but they differ in how elements are removed. Here is an array-based queue implementation. The Queue interface includes all the methods of the Collection interface. Our choice here is to use an array of size \(n 1\). Which of these solutions to adopt is purely a matter of the One obvious solution is to keep an explicit count of the number ofĮlements in the queue, or at least a Boolean variable that indicatesĪnother solution is to make the array be of size \(n 1\),Īnd only allow \(n\) elements to be stored. We must seek some other way to distinguish full from empty queues. For this assignment, enqueue() will be implemented in. In similar manner, we can be sure that two of the \(n 1\) statesĪre indistinguishable by the \(n\) relative values of front Using a singly-linked list, implement the four queue methods enqueue(), dequeue(), peek(), and isEmpty(). The Pigeonhole Principle states that, given \(n\) pigeonholesĪnd \(n 1\) pigeons, when all of the pigeons go into the holes weĬan be sure that at least one hole contains more than one pigeon. In this example, we will learn to implement the queue data structure in Java. This is an example of the Pigeonhole Principle. Java Program to Implement the queue data structure. Enqueuing Order If there are several soft references to an object, all of them will be enqueued at the same time. We invent a special case for, say, empty queues. Notice how in the following implementation queue.enqueue() is. However, there are only \(n\) possible values for rear unless two stacks are sufficient: a stack for enqueuing and a stack. Values for rear are needed to distinguish among the \(n 1\) If the value of front is fixed, then \(n 1\) different

The next section (second "B" section) is very similar to the first "B" section except that it stays in the tonic key all the way through. However, the melody of this "A" section is in the left hand until the right hand has a two-measure thirty-second-note run that flows into the rest of the melody, this time the right hand octaves being broken. Not unlike the end of the "B" theme, the "A" theme's melody is suggested a few times before returning to the tonic key and a third "A" section. This reaches a climax, a call-and-response play on the beginning of the "C" theme, and the thirty-second-note passage with the climax again. The right hand then plays urgent thirty-second notes while the left hand supports with staccato sixteenth notes. The sharp forte chords, although in stark contrast with the rest of the rondo, bear some resemblance to the first few chords of the "B" theme. Suddenly, the "C" theme begins with a key change into B ♭ minor (although not marked in the key signature). After the arpeggios, both hands play around with the "A" theme's melody before arriving back to the tonic key at the second "A" theme (with very little deviation from the first "A" theme). The first "A" theme starts in the tonic key, and the "B" theme transitions into the dominant key with big grand arpeggios in the right hand using a good portion of the keyboard. The fourth movement is in a rondo form: A–B–A–C–A–B–A–Coda. Softonic review Award-winning DJ software for personal computers This is usually desirable-try a French 75 with real Champagne to see how good that drink can be-but it directly clashes with the absinthe. Anything that goes through a secondary fermentation in the bottle, like Champagne or Cava, will have bready, yeasty complexity on the finish. That being said, we feel strongly that it is Champagne’s brighter, fruitier cousin Prosecco that really makes this drink shine. Sparkling Wine: Hemingway specifically called for Champagne, not Prosecco, and likely would’ve insisted on it. Garnish with a lemon peel or nothing at all. Was his problem with absinthe that it was insufficiently strong? And then what’s this instruction to “drink three to five?” Really?Ĭombine ingredients in a coupe or Champagne glass. Hemingway’s “cocktail” here is to substitute water with Champagne, a concept I’m usually for, but adding alcohol to a double-shot of absinthe is like strapping a grenade onto a bomb. On the other hand, this still seems like a joke, doesn’t it? Absinthe, even for the destitute and degenerate in the late 1800s, was always taken with water. As far as cocktail recipes go, that’s pretty straightforward. Drink three to five of these slowly.” The cocktail’s name, aptly chosen: Death in the Afternoon. To this, Hemingway continues: “Add iced Champagne until it attains the proper opalescent milkiness. Just as an editorial note, that’s two full ounces of absinthe, a flamboyantly high proof spirit thought at the time to be hallucinogenic and/or mentally deranging, and which in 1935 had been illegal across most of the world for 20 years (but was still made in Spain, which is where he came across it). How deeply that joke was intended to go is an open question, which brings us to Ernest Hemingway’s recipe, which is right up front on page one: “Pour 1 jigger of absinthe into a Champagne glass,” he begins. The name itself is a drunken pun on So Red the Rose, a somber Civil War novel written the year before. It contains thirty cocktails from thirty authors, each named for one of the respective author’s works, and each attended by an impudent, often lascivious caricature. Their book, So Red the Nose, or Breath in the Afternoon, was published in 1935. Permissions are primarily divided into “Read Only” and “Read & Write” or “RO” and “RW” for short.ĭevices/users with RO permissions can only view your files and not modify them in any way. After choosing a folder from your PC, Sync will automatically open the Share menu where you will have a variety of different options depending on what you want to do with the files. Start by adding a standard folder so that you can become familiar with the process. This folder is useful when you want to create encrypted backups, especially if you are planning to host something in a cloud storage service. Encrypted folders have an additional option that allows you to share files to another device without decrypting them so that no one can access them. Encrypted folder: An option that regular users are unlikely to use.Basically the same but with additional sharing options that give you absolute control over who can access and change the included files. Advanced folder: The paid version of the Standard folder.Since we are using the free version, standard folders is not very flexible with permissions and once you give someone access, you cannot revoke it. Standard folder: The basic option which you will use for most of your files and folders. To begin with, click on the downwards-pointing arrow next to the “Add Folder” button and you will see three different folder options. There is no need to set up any other options as you can instantly start adding folders and sharing them with others. You should now be facing the main Sync UI which will be completely empty since this is your first time using it. Choose carefully as you cannot change it later. Once you have installed the app, run it and provide it with your name. The installation process is very straightforward though keep in mind that Sync will automatically run with Windows unless you disable the setting in the setup wizard or in the app’s preferences. Presuming that you have decided to give Sync a try, go ahead and download it from one of the links above. Since we cannot really go over every single feature of Sync, I would suggest visiting the official Features Spotlight page and perusing list at your leisure. Finally, sharing large files is much easier with Sync, especially over a local network because the service can also work offline via LAN. Instead, you are only limited by your own hard drive. Furthermore, Sync has no size limits as it does not store your data in its servers. Of course, the added security is what makes it worth your while, especially when you want to share sensitive information including pictures. So while you can just drag and drop a file into Dropbox and instantly make it available in other devices, Sync requires a more involved process. The other device or other user also needs to be approved by you before they can even read the files as the encryption makes them useless otherwise. In contrast, Sync automatically encrypts that file and then sends it over to other devices only when you specify so. This means that malicious individuals can gain access to these files, though most people need not worry about attacks of this scale. When you upload a file to Drive, Google grabs it from your computer, uploads it to its servers and then syncs it on the cloud without any form of encryption. The main difference, which also happens to be the reason why some people prefer to use Sync, is that the service uses peer-to-peer (P2P) technology in order to sync and share your files across multiple devices instead of hosting the data on third-party servers.Īllow me to elaborate with a simple demonstration using Sync and Google Drive. Those of you who are already familiar with cloud-storage services need to understand that BitTorrent Sync works in a much different way. Downloads to other platforms are also available from the official site. And if those two areas are what you are mostly interested in, BitTorrent Sync might be a better alternative. One thing these services do not account for, however, is privacy and security. The main reason why these services have become so popular is that they are incredibly convenient as they allow users to access their files from any device, wherever they are. The increasing popularity of cloud storage services is undeniable and services like Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, and Box are now hosting unbelievable amounts of data from millions of users. Using the ExifTool application also meant that the files had to be uploaded on one of my servers, which meant that with time more and more problems were being caused by the tool (not to mention all the hacking attempts). (You can read more about it in this thread about the tool) The first tool used the free and opensource application ExifTool by Phil Harvey (Credit to that person!) to extract the required data from SONY ARW and JPG files. On higher-end DSLRs, it's probably worth the $400, but for most mid and low end DSLRs, it'll mean a trip over to Amazon to buy a new camera. The tool was created in april 2013 when a user called Micholand posted a way to read shutter count information on the A900. If your shutter goes out before the camera has exhausted its technological brains, then you can get the shutter replaced for around $400 by sending it in to the manufacturer. How much does it cost to get a shutter replaced? If you don't already have a program that reads all the exif data, I recommend this free one for Windows and Mac. Simply download an EXIF reader and check the number. If you shoot Nikon, your job will be much easier. If you're a tech junkie and you shoot Canon, you might want to check out this post to see how to hack it with a hex editor. If you shoot Canon, there is no easy way to find out how many times your camera has taken a picture on many of their DSLR cameras. Simply download this little program, tell it to analyze one of your recent photos, and it will look at the EXIF data to determine how many pictures you've taken. If you shoot Nikon, it is simple to find out how many pictures your camera has taken. (Perhaps I should add this point to my camera manufacturer whine list?) Fortunately for the manufacturers, most photographers don't press the shutter button that many times during the warranty period anyway, so they don't have to back up their claims of how many shutter actuations it can handle. In my experience and from what I have seen from other photographers online, most shutters make or surpass the 100,000 or 150,000 mark without any problem whatsoever, but it seems that few cameras actually make it to the 300,000 shutter actuations even on the cameras that are rated to that number. How many shutter actuations to most photographers actually achieve? Mid and high-end cameras have more durable shutters that are rated up to between 150,000 and 300,000 actuations. Most entry-level DSLR cameras are only rated at 100,000 shutter actuations. First of all, the camera manufacturers publicize the shutter rating of the camera. There are a few things you'll want to know about the life of your shutter. How many shutter actuations do the manufacturers claim? The shutter is hardware in the camera and the firmware won't impact its durability (but seriously… it's time to update). It really makes no difference whether or not you have updated the firmware of the camera. Here's Aaron's question… “I have a Nikon D3 camera and would really like to know what is the lifetime of its shutter, and i had never updated its firmware.”įirst of all, let's cut out the fluff. It's actually a very good question and the answer will also teach you an easy way to find out how many total times you've pressed the shutter button on your DSLR, which is a handy thing to know for used camera buyers. Aaron Mizzi recently sent in a question asking how long the shutter on his DSLR will last before it bites the dust. Archived from the original on 14 February 2003. "The Girl in Alfred Hitchcock's Shower" adds to the knowledge of Psycho with some huge surprises. Today you can count on the fingers of one hand the number of the original cast and crew of Psycho who are still alive and can say what really went on. (AP) Actress Janet Leigh appears as Marion Crane in the famous "Psycho" shower scene. The redheaded chorus dancer and outdoorswoman had been at the heart of the most famous movie scene ever filmed, seeing everything that went on behind the scenes and in the shower. For all the books written about Psycho, Marli Renfro had never been interviewed. As for Hitch's filmmaking, he was a genius and always fascinating and visually thrilling. He was more petty than I anticipated, and he was not a happy man, nor very mature in his relationships. Graysmith: About Hitch personally, I learned that he often developed crushes not only on his leading ladies, but supporting actresses. What if, like "Laura," she were still alive and someone else had been murdered in her place? And if she were could I find her?Īlfred Hitchcock is such a Hollywood icon – did you learn anything about him, or his movie-making, that you didn't already know? But as I finally wrote the vivacious redhead's story after all the rumors and reports in print said that she had been murdered, a nagging doubt entered my mind. For over forty years I kept her photos (and have them in front of me as I write this), as obsessed as the detective in the classic noir film "Laura" who fell in love with a dead woman's portrait. Once I start a project I finish it, I can't let go. I am not only a visual person but an obsessive one. She became one of the first Playboy bunnies after posing for the front page of Hugh Hefner's revolutionary magazine, before suddenly and inexplicably… she vanished! Her carriage was erect, graceful, poised, and as limber and lithe as a cat's." After the filming of Psycho, Renfro went on to star in Francis Ford Coppola's first movie, The Peeper. Instead, Alfred Hitchcock hired self-proclaimed "nudist" Marli Renfo, described by Graysmith: "Robust, energetic, and breezy, the redhead exuded health and wholesomeness. Leigh, who was uncomfortable with the idea of nudity on screen, refused to bare all for the terrifying 1960 shower scene. Robert Graysmith tells the story of what really happened to Janet Leigh's body double in Psycho, while revealing a murder that could only have happened in the shadows of Hollywood.
